Note about my Reviews

Dear Authors: The reviews in this blog are only personal opinions. I have absolutely no background in literature, writing or reviewing. I am a Librarian (actually a Library Technician for those who care OR know the difference) with a love for a good story. The opinions in the reviews are ONLY my OPINIONS. I am not commenting on the writers ability since well -- I am not a writer and never will be. If you are the author of any of the books reviewed here, my opinion is just that and not a judgment against you!

Before I was Me by Chad Pelley

Before I Was Me
by Chad Pelley
Fierce Ink Press
ISBN: 9780991793747

Description: When someone close dies, especially if it’s sudden, there’s often a strong desire to talk to that person one last time. To reminisce and say “I love you.” Or maybe get angry and ask why.

In Before I Was Me author Chad Pelley places readers in his shoes as he reflects on high school incidents that continue to resonate with him years afterward. Drawn from the memory of several events, he writes about suicide with direct yet breathtaking prose.

Not simply a tale of a boy and the girl he still misses sixteen years later, Before I Was Me is also a touching story about loss, grief and coming to terms with the past.

Partial proceeds go toward Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention

Review: Heartbreaking, poignant, raw and honest.  Won't lie short stories aren't my favorite as I always want more and get frustrated because the stories just end. However, this is truly a beautiful piece and am glad that I agreed to review it. I also admire anyone who opens up about painful moments in their life in order to help others. A must read for anyone who has lost someone they cared about to suicide. As well as to those who are contemplating ending their life.  Also money goes towards suicide prevention so its a win win situation.  Go pick up a copy you will not regret it.
