Note about my Reviews

Dear Authors: The reviews in this blog are only personal opinions. I have absolutely no background in literature, writing or reviewing. I am a Librarian (actually a Library Technician for those who care OR know the difference) with a love for a good story. The opinions in the reviews are ONLY my OPINIONS. I am not commenting on the writers ability since well -- I am not a writer and never will be. If you are the author of any of the books reviewed here, my opinion is just that and not a judgment against you!

HCC Frenzy Presents

I was super excited when on the last day of BEA I received an evite from the beautiful Shannon Parsons to A Harper Collins Frenzy event. I am a huge fan of HC and the fabulous people that work there as they are always super friendly and just so passionate about books (not to mention funny as hell)

I met up with Jenn and Terri and we headed up to the HarperCollins building for a night filled with fabulous people, hilarious conversation, books and PIE.  Yup, my friends, I said pie.  There were 6 or 7 different kinds all with the most delightful names.  I grabbed a piece of the Love Sucks, Eat Pie which was basically a Key Lime Pie with a shortbread crust -- decadent I tell you.

After some catching up with my fellow Ontario Bloggers and HC staff we sat down with our yummy pie and prepared for an entertaining presentation.

Jessica (@HCCFrenzy) started off the presentation with a description of the Frenzy magazine and a little bit about what she did and some upcoming ideas for the magazine.  Than Hadley, who is a book editor, gave us some inside into what an editor does .  I really enjoyed this part as I honestly had no idea about the editing process.  Than the girls took turns discussing some of their upcoming hot new releases and of course an interesting discussion about Insurgent.

Highlighted Titles

Breathe by Sarah Crossen: Fascinating, unique plot and a kick ass cover. This will be a title I will be picking up

Starling by Lesley Livingston: It's by Lesley, I am going to buy it.  I adore her such a charming and funny author. Also so approachable at events too with a wicked sense of humour. Oh yeah and the plot sounds good.

Such Wicked Intent by Kenneth Oppel -- Love this series and cannot wait to pick it up. I like the cover too

Don't Turn Around by Michelle Gagnon: YA suspense -- sounds like it would be intense and the type of book you don't want to put down.

Ten  by Gretchen McNeil: Spooky cover. A YA take on Agatha Christies And Then There Were None

Debutantes by Cora Harrison: Not my thing, but think it will be a big seller.

Than for the big reveal of who the special guest was. Most of us had guessed who it was going to be, but it was still a fabulous touch. In came the delightfully hilarious Tahereh Mafi who is the author of Shatter Me. I have heard so much about her book but hadn't had a chance to read it.  She was so sweet and the first thing she wanted to know was all about us. It was cute when she recognized the twitter handles and gave those people props (very classy in my opinion). She talked a little bit about the sequel and the reveal of the cover for MTV Crush (I'm old have no idea what that is, but the other girls piped out that we had no access to it here in Canada)  We scored after her talk because we were sitting right beside her so we got our copy of Shatter Me that HarperCollins had just given us signed right away. We also got some pics and had a lot of fun just chatting with her.

We stayed for a bit afterwards to hang with our fellow bloggers but had to leave as we were also going out the next evening. Thank you so much HCC ladies (And Cory the pie was sooooo good, too bad you couldn't have stayed) the evening was wonderful. I will miss these fab events when I move to Calgary -- hmmm think we need to get a Calgary Book Bloggers event

We all received a sweet grab bag that contained one of the books that we had been talking about.  Terri had won a SIGNED copy of Spindlers by Lauren Oliver, so she switched with me for my copy of Debutantes, that sounded good, but probably wouldn't have been my thing.
