Note about my Reviews

Dear Authors: The reviews in this blog are only personal opinions. I have absolutely no background in literature, writing or reviewing. I am a Librarian (actually a Library Technician for those who care OR know the difference) with a love for a good story. The opinions in the reviews are ONLY my OPINIONS. I am not commenting on the writers ability since well -- I am not a writer and never will be. If you are the author of any of the books reviewed here, my opinion is just that and not a judgment against you!

Here are some of the Christmas Balls I made at Lora's on Sunday
Jakes Christmas BallsChristmas Balls
My favourite Christmas Decorations.  I have made Natasha promise not to let me go to Woodbine and buy anymore  -- no matter how much I beg.
Claymation Toys
My Christmas Tree.  From this angle you really cannot tell how crooked the damn tree is. My Christmas Shopping is done, I have sent out all my cards and everything is wrapped. Damn I am good -- hopefully I got everyone.

Jake Walked the entire Bolton Christmas parade.  I am so proud of him because its a long walk and it was frickin cold that day
This is my gorgeous dress and the weird ass hair cut the chick from Niagra gave me.  The styles of the dress and hair really do not go together, but I had no choice.
And Finally here is a picture of Jake getting his Yellow belt

Nice! I've gotta get back into it. One contest entry a day is not cutting it.
I may have to dump the boyfriend for a while to get more contesting time.

The movie was visually stunning. Dakota was brilliant as Lyra and Sam Elliot was great as always, even if he always plays the same type of character in everything he does . I personally feel that Nicole Kidman's turn as Mrs Coulter was surprisingly horrific.
The effects were wonderfully done and the Daemons were fantastic. However the film was far too short and the ending was anti climatic.  The film covers too much ground in too little time.  It leaves the film feeling shallow and empty.
Since I read the book, I already had come to understand the characters and feel a part of the story.  The film did not make you care for anyone, it just jumped from scene to scene.  One of the reviews I read nailed the problem dead on and explains my main problem with the movie.
"The problem is, the film hits pretty much all of those plot points in the time it took you to read the above paragraph. The Golden Compass is a compelling read, but it is also a very deliberate one. Quite a long time is spent on the characters, the places, the mythology. But at a scant 113 minutes, the film barely has enough time to zip from plot point to plot point with no breathing room in between."
I really did enjoy the movie, but I felt bad for those who had not already read the book.  I imagine the newbies probably felt pretty lost and wondering what the whole point was.  I know my hubby really didnt enjoy the story -- other than the parts with the ice bears, and had a hard time staying awake.
Anyway Daniel Craig was bloody wonderful as Lord Asriel.  He's not just a pretty face after all!
Since it was opening night the theatre was giving away prizes.  I won a giant poster for answering a trivia question.
